Fit2Fight, Better'n Eggs®, Bob Greene and Type II Diabetes

Many of us usually think of an adult developing Type II diabetes, but there are more and more children diagnosed with this every day. Currently, this preventable disease affects 25.8 million children and adults in the U.S., and we can easily thwart this preventable disease with a little consideration for what we eat.

Like many families, Type II diabetes does touch my family. Many of us watch our family members drink soft drink after soft drink, eat nothing but sugar laced foods, dismiss the healthier options and refuse the acknowledgement that these choices are contributing to or the cause for their Type II diabetes. In the face of this, raising our children to develop a healthy lifestyle can sometimes seem impossible.

Recently, I came across this recipe from Better’n Eggs ® and AllWhites® – The Smoothie Starter – and I knew I found something that will help me give my family nutritional foods that taste great. It looks delicious and I’m ready to try it. I’m hoping you’ll try it with me. Here’s the recipe:

Serves: 1- 7 ounce serving

1/3 cup AllWhites®
3/4 cup  (6 ounces) orange, pineapple, apple or cranberry juice

Pour AllWhites® and juice in a glass and shake well or place in a food blender to mix well.

For a thicker shake, include strawberries, bananas, plain yogurt and/or a couple of ice cubes.

The fruits are a no brainer…healthy, sweet, easy to “sell” to your kids; and I know you’re wondering about the AllWhites®…really? Well, Crystal Farms® Better’n Eggs ® and AllWhites® are fat-free, cholesterol-free, and low-calorie alternatives to traditional eggs. Though they’re made from real eggs, they have ½ the calories and have 2% more vitamins and minerals…with nothing added…and they’re convenient to use in recipes without altering the taste of your foods. Win!

Also, during the Month of November, there is a Fit2Fight campaign happening that includes Oprah’s personal trainer, and health and wellness expert, Bob Greene. He is teaming up with Better’n Eggs® for a twitter party (#betterneggs) on Wednesday, November 16th from 8 – 10 pm EST. This is a great time to share your experience with this recipe…and of course there will be prizes (you can go here for more information). Hope to see you there!
